The HSA was formally established in November of 1988.
The institutor Assembly was held on 28th June 1989. The predecessor of HSA, Hungarian Seamen Officer's Association, after the II World War could not fulfil its duties, so it has ceased its operation.
The main objects of HSA:
- To attend Hungarian seamen's traditions, keep alive and make strong the fellow-feeling. - To support the case of Hungarian sea navigation by moral and spiritual means. - To vindicate, represent and protect the rights and trade opinions relating to practising, before Hungarian and foreigner Authorities and third legal or non-legal Entities. - To provide moral and social support to families of the Members. - To assist in professional advance of Members. - To safeguards for Members' interests. - To organise collection and systematisation of documents and material mementoes relating to the seamen's traditions, and provide their temporary or continuous exhibition. - To assume providing validation of the Universal Hungarian Sea Navigation and assist its development and support to found its revival in the future.
The criteria of Regular Membership: - The candidate must be a Hungarian citizen, or in case of foreigners, settling in Hungary or registration certificate. - The candidate can not be forbidden from the public affairs. - The candidate has to have at least five years validated sea time, or must be a seaman on pension. Backer Member can be that person, who is interested in seamanship and expresses his inten-tion to participate in the work of the Association. Honourable Member can be that person, who is judged worthy and asked to accept this post by the Assembly of Association.
The HSA is an Organization free from politics, so we do not react to any Parties' call, since after our change of social regime, there was not a Party in the Parliament, which wanted to stop the deliberately elimination of Hungarian Sea Navigation.
